If you have read some of our previous posts about “mindful minimalism,” then you may have been waiting on this post - our master-list of ethically sourced clothing and beauty products that we LOVE! Not all of these companies have the specific documentation to be a certified B corps** or fair trade certified*, but all have a clear mission to ethically source their products and be knowledgeable about where their materials/ingredients are coming from. Click on each company's name to view their website! I've also included a brief description for some of these companies - including what they offer and some of their company's mission.

Clothing:

- Madewell - This company sells men and woman's clothing. Out of all the ethical companies I buy from, Madewell has the best prices and some pretty good sales! They are in the process of growing in their sustainability and have a downloadable "sustainability report" so customers can see their current goals and where they are in the process of reaching those goals.

- Albion Fit - a small, family owned company specializing in clothing for men, women and children. Albion is a small company started in Utah. They design in their house, ship from their own warehouse, and sell only from their sites and 4 store location - they control every step of the process ensuring the quality of their work. They also advocate for and follow fair labor practices and recycle plant waste.

- Seed Heritage - This Australian company sells men, women and children's clothing. It has the most beautiful, unique, and feminine clothes. Though I haven't purchased from Seed Heritage, it. is on my list to buy from next. Though it can be a bit pricey, I've been told the that its definitely worth the investment. Like many of the companies listed here, they value sustainable, ethical sourcing, and are environmentally conscious. Another plus is that all the prices listed on their site are in Australian dollars, which after the conversion rate, actually cost less in US dollars.

- Patagonia** - Many of us are familiar with this large company - famous for their outdoor gear and outerwear. On top of their commitment to sustainably made clothing, they also give back a percentage of their profits towards the preservation and restoration of the natural environment.

- Athleta** - Women's clothing, featuring a large variety of athletic wear. This certified B corp not only values sustainability, but highlights inclusive representation for woman - all ages, races, ethnicities, identities, sizes, and abilities.

- Everlane - Specializes in women and men's clothing. Everlane values transparency. They ensure that their factories receive a score of 90 or above for their working conditions and that the workers are paid fair wages. On top of all this - Everlane is environmentally conscious - working to decrease their use of plastic and increase the use of organic cotton as well as other sustainable materials "from farm to factory."

- Prana* - This company sells men and women's clothing, I love their yoga clothes - they are a fair trade company they is well aware of their environmental impact and showcase this awareness through their conscious supply chain and responsible packaging!

- WVN.** - Women's clothing. WVN touts artisan made clothing with a designer feel. They are more expensive than some of the other brands listed above, but their clothing gives you an essence of luxury. They are a certified B-Corp, use only certified fair trade factories, and meet the GOTS (global organic textile standard) - basically all of their raw materials meet rigorous organic standards that are reliably sourced.

Shoes:

- Lotta from Stockholm - Lotta is a company I order from every year in October - celebrating my invented holiday of "clog-tober." What I love about Lotta is that their clogs are made of only 4 materials - 100% Alder wood from sustainable forests in Sweden, leather that is chrome-free and vegetable tanned from Italy, metal staples and skid-resistant rubber soles that are also made in Sweden. They sell their clogs at a reasonable price, but also have a "sale" and "seconds" shop for those who are looking for even more economical style.

- Nisolo - specializing in boots and dress shoes for men and women. Nisolo was recommended to me by a dear friend who not only loves the company's ethics, but also the quality of their shoes. Nisolo openly shares the wages they are currently paying their factory workers in Peru on their site and challenge other companies to do the same. In addition to selling shoes, they also have a an ethical marketplace on their site with items for sale like kitchenware, candles and other odds and ends for the home!

- AllBirds** - famous for their washable tennis shoes and activewear. My husband loves his pair of Allbirds - they are made of wool, comfortable, casual, and great for those who work on their feet all day. As a certified B-corp, they are already 100% carbon neutral and working towards reducing their environmental footprint even more in the coming years through using "renewable materials and responsible energy."
